Group Challenge Activities

Magnetic Sensor Challenge

Magnetic sensors fill a crucial technology space across multiple industries. While many of you have had a chance to develop materials for or perform laboratory tests on magnetic sensors, it is likely that you didn’t fully explore their practical use. To expand your skills, we invite you to participate in the Magnetic Sensor Challenge.

This Challenge is open to students and young professionals registered for the Conference and attending in person. It will start on Monday with an instructional meeting, where teams will be formed and provided with magnetoresistive sensors, magnets, and an Arduino design kit. The teams will use their creativity to develop a sensor circuit and perform measurements to be presented on Thursday where the winning team will be determined, and prizes awarded. You must sign up to participate in this event when you register for the Conference

Outreach Challenge

We have all been taught the fundamentals of magnetism and magnetic materials and their applications, however, the Outreach Challenge will give participants the opportunity to create a program that educates non-scientists on an aspect of the targeted areas.

This Challenge is open to everyone registered for the Conference and attending in person. It will start after the close of advance registration with an instructional meeting where potential topics will be reviewed, and teams formed. (Team members cannot be from the same university.) Teams will choose one topic and then use their ingenuity to develop an outreach program to be presented on at the conference where the winning team will be determined, and prizes awarded. You must sign up to participate in this event when you register for the Conference.
